In high school I worked as a pharmacy technician. Wearing my little blue lab coat I started to have my eyes opened to how reliant our community was on pills. The addictions to some of the opiods was and still is a very real problem and I learned that people had their lives come to a halt due to how willingly the doctors were to write a prescription for the pain rather than deal with the source. I saw the anger and fear so many customers brought to the window when there insurance wouldn't cover their medicine. The pharmaceutical reps pushed their new drug of choice by giving away free swag without any regard to the long list of side effects people would experience. I remember laughing at some of the side effects like hallucinations or sleep eating. Then customers would be prescribed pills to treat their side effects from the drug that started it all in the first place. And the cycle goes on and on and on.
I didn't realize it at the time but somewhere inside me screamed there has to be another solution. In college, I started studying earth systems, society and the environment with a strong emphasis on agriculture. I read books by Michael Pollen and listened to lectures on how we need to get back to eating whole foods and mostly plants to heal the sicknesses of the West. I learned how important it is for plants to be grown in their native habitat not only for the the benefit of the plant but to increase competition and biodiversity of the ecosystems. I learned how we interact with our planet is a reflection on our own health and wellness.
When I was first introduced to essential oils all the ducks started to line up in the proverbial row. I got it right away. The oils are from nature just as we are from nature (the oils are carbon based and we are carbon based). We all speak the same chemical language. I realized this was the solution my community needs. What happens when we take synthetics (drugs, vitamins, supplements) is akin to looking at yourself in a mirror while trying to read the writing on your shirt. You might be able to read what it says but it takes a whole lot longer to translate. The body has to translate the synthetics as well but it is a lot more difficult. Due to the nature of essential oils or body doesn't have to make this translation and can immediately begin to utilize the unique chemistry of each essential oil.
It is my mission to assist my community and put a healer in every home. I firmly stand behind my belief that doTerra essential oils are a strong foundation and solution to making over the family medicine cabinet. DoTerra essential oils are the best oils on the planet and are sourced indigenous from the worlds; from over forty countries using sustainable farming methods and research to determine where the plants grow best in their native habitat. With my background in environmental science I knew how important this sourcing is to keep the oils pure and the therapeutic properties intact. The oils are batch tested for potency using 7 different methods. Finally, the oils are bottles undiluted without any fillers, additives, preservatives, artificial colors or fragrances.
As a new mom, I was dealing with hormone changes and fatigue. Rather than slam down cup after cup of caffeine or turn to sweets I have found natural solutions to help with my health concerns. I use my oils every single day and I have even more energy than I did when I was twenty!
If you could write down your top 3 health concerns, what would they be? Oils can assist your body with almost anything!
HOW DO YOU APPLY ESSENTIAL OILS? There are three main ways: aromatically, topically, and internally. (Note: if you do plan to use oil internally, make sure you are only using pure, high-quality oils!) • Aromatic – Great way to disperse the molecules in the air • Topical – Anywhere on skin where you have issue, be sure to avoid eyes & ears • Internally – Only highest grade of oils, always dilute when taking internally
DIFFERENT GRADES OF ESSENTIAL OILS: The #1 mistake that I first made when trying essential oils was actually going to hobby lobby and buying a bottle of eucalyptus oil. *shudder!* I believe on the bottle it said not to be used topically or internally. I cringe now thinking about what must have been in that little bottle. Other mistakes I made was buying oils at Walgreen's (tea tree) or the health food store (lavender). One quick smell test will show you the inferiority of these other oils. These lesser oils didn't work and caused my skin to react negatively. The solution? Use high quality oils. With doTerra, you only need 2-3 drops per use so the cost per drop is pennies and the results speak for themselves.
CHOOSE WHICH OILS SUIT YOU BEST. You can buy the oils one at a time or you can buy in a kit. The kit offers a much bigger discount and will provide you with the “backbone” of your essential oil toolbelt.
