Singing Bowls

10/20/2015

This past Friday night I attended a singing bowl and reiki attunement event at Nurture Yoga.  In general, I am a relaxed person with all the yoga and meditation I practice.  Wow, I didn't realize I could relax even more deeply!
Tibetan Singing Bowls are fascinating.  The bowls principle composition is a blend of gold, silver, mercury, copper, lead, iron, and tin.  It is said that these elements are used to represent the heavenly bodies: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter,  and Saturn.  When the metal was hammered into the bowls mantras or prayers were recited so the prayers would come out when the bowls were played.

Below is a picture of the bowls and the practitioners who are fantastic!

During the playing of the bowls, I felt my body completely relax.  I felt as if my arms were made of iron and I wouldn't be able to lift them off the floor if I tried!  The most interesting experience was that I seemed to be alert yet not in the room-I wasn't sleeping-but I wasn't awake!

Don't we look so cozy?

Everyone's experience with the vibration of the singing bowls can be completely different.  I have been experiencing issues with my sacral area (my second chakra).  I concentrated my healing on this area and I have been noticing a fresh surge of creativity since Friday night.  Everyone experiences something different... some people see colors or lights, other start to heal old traumas.  I hope that you will try to attend a singing bowl event yourself to see how it effects you!

If anyone has had an experience with the bowls I would love to read your comments below!

Here is a short video I found on You Tube to kind of give you an idea of what singing bowls sound like!  Now imagine you are laying in a toasty warm room, glowing with candlelight, listening to this beautiful sound.  Yep.  Peaceful!
